Air

8.4/10 stinky bananas

Cool story. Good script. Great soundtrack. Two thumbs up.

Matt Damon and Viola Davis turn in excellent performances. They have great on-screen chemistry; in fact, the whole cast meshes together really well.

Let's hit the highlight reel real quick:

  • the scene where they create the show is very good

  • Matt Damon's speech to Michael Jordan rules. Great sports-movie speech.

  • any scene where Viola Davis and Matt Damon are talking to each other is excellent

My biggest gripe with Air is not being able to see Michael Jordan's face. What the fuck was that about? Why couldn't they show his face? Is it a legal thing? Did Michael Jordan not give them the rights to his face or some shit? Makes no sense. It's extremely irritating. For example, the scene where he meets the Nike brass and Jordan won't turn around to talk to them bothered the fuck out of me. I don't even care if the kid playing Michael Jordan looked nothing like him, I just don't want to be staring at the back of his fucking head.

Still worth watching despite that egregious mistake.
