8.8/10 stinky bananas

Another great crime/thriller flick from Gyllenhaal. There is also some buddy cop vibes sprinkled in there. Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña have great chemistry and it really comes through in the movie. Lots of good, light-hearted, banter amidst the stressful environment that surrounds being an LAPD officer. David Ayer (the director) does a good job of incorporating unique cinematography (i.e. POV footage) to give us a fresh perspective on the classic cop movie. This sort of cinematography also heightened the suspense for me, as it made me feel like I was in there with them during the action scenes.

The formula for this movie was pretty simple: strong characterization, raising of the stakes, huge conflict. And it worked very nicely. I cared a lot about Gyllenhaal and Peña in this movie, and the end conflict did not disappoint.

Wow, what the fuck am I talking about. I am an idiot. But this is still a very good movie, so watch it.
