9.2/10 stinky bananas
One of the most unexpectedly amazing war movies I've ever seen. Easily Andrew Garfield's best performance. A story about a pacifist that enlists in the army. Now you're probably thinking that I made a mistake just then. I did not, that is the gist of the movie. This movie could have been a huge bust, but the complete opposite is what happened. The makers of this movie made the lead up to the war the best part, and that is a hard thing to do. That isn't a knock on the war scenes either. The war sequences were well executed, I just wish there was more of it.
My only real complaint is that Vince Vaughn felt really out of place in the middle of the action of a war scene. It was like seeing Big Foot in one of those black and white photos you always see on the History Channel. Couldn't help but notice him. In fairness to Vince, he was good in the movie as a drill sergeant. Do drill sergeants even fight in wars? I don't know.
A lesson in all of this is that Hugo Weaving does not do bad movies. If he is in a movie that you are thinking about watching, then by god do it already.
