9.7/10 stinky bananas
A near-perfect war movie with an incredible ensemble cast. Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, Ed Burns, Tom Sizemore, Vin Diesel, Giovanni Ribisi all turn in great performances as the main platoon. You also get great cameos from Ted Danson, Paul Giamatti, Nathan Fillion, Bryan Cranston, and the guy who played Gerry Bertier from Remember the Titans.
Each war scene is incredibly well done. The action seems so real and the special effects are grotesque. On top of the incredible action sequences, they give you heart-wrenching death scenes. Giovanni Ribisi, Vin Diesel, Tom Hanks, and Adam Goldberg all get extremely emotional death scenes. The medic (Giovanni Ribisi) cries for his mom as his guts spill over. As Vin Diesel bleeds out, he begs for help while being used as bait by a Nazi sniper. After a gruelling knife fight Adam Goldberg gets slowly stabbed to death while his bitch boy comrade stands on the stairwell crying. And last but not least, Tom Hanks uses his last breath to hold the bridge, and seemingly blows up a tank with a pistol. All of these deaths are seared into my brain as movie memories that I will never forget.
Personally, my favourite part of the Saving Private Ryan Task Force is the American sniper who recites Bible passages as he snipes the living shit out of Nazi soldiers.
I love this movie. Easily one of my all time favourites. If you haven't seen this movie then you suck.
