6.6/10 stinky bananas
Nowhere near the stratosphere of the Rocky/Creed franchise, but certainly not a bad film. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a troubled boxer whose wife gets caught in the crossfire of a shooting. The circumstances of the shooting is a little weird to get your head around, but it's nothing to lose your lid over.
If I were to boil this movie down to one sentence, it would go as follows: Southpaw is a decent boxing movie with a sad single dad plot crammed in the middle of it. That is probably the shittiest description of all time, but I don't care. You get what you get.
If you are craving a boxing movie, and for some reason Rocky is nowhere to be found, then this movie would be an acceptable substitute.
