8.4/10 stinky bananas
Another banger by Vin Diesel and the gang. Lots to love about this movie.
The opening scene is vintage Fast and Furious. A good old race for pink slips. The movie gets off to a fast start. Love it.
Next up is the prison scene. It‘s probably the most rewatchable scene of the movie. Statham and The Rock hurtle insults at each other for a good 3 minutes. Then all hell breaks loose as they both make their escape. We get some awesome hand-to-hand combat. But The Rock steals the show with a couple of incredible lines. He hits the one angry prisoner with, “keep waiting, bitch” as The Rock stabs the guys with his own shiv. Then he cracks a few more skulls, before getting shot with some rubber bullets. Then comes the line of the movie, “rubber bullets, big mistake”. I love everything about this scene. It fucking rules. I’m pretty sure The Rock straight up kills one of the guards, but he looked good doing it so it’s all good.
Zombie car sequence is pretty damn cool.
The final action sequence is extremely entertaining, but the best part about it doesn’t even take place on the ice. The baby plane scene trumps the ice submarine stuff. Statham can make any action scene awesome. He kicks all the ass and is still able to play off the baby for some great comedic moments. Side note: That baby might be the GOAT baby actor. Very cute.
Overall, the movie has good writing, great action, and a solid story. It’s exactly what you want when you fire up a Fast and Furious movie.
Time to nitpick a Fast and Furious movie. Woooohoooo. Charlize Theron is a mediocre villain at best. She is just kind of blah. But the mother of all nitpicks is the fact that Statham is accepted into the family. You spent a whole movie hating this guy, and now he’s your best friend. Makes no sense. He fucking killed Han! Did you forget already Dom? You big fat oaf. F9 retconned all this anyway, so it doesn’t matter, but it still infuriates me though.
Great installment of the Fast and Furious franchise. Very underrated.
